Competition Rules
Stein Holding Competition Rules
General Rules:
- The competitor who can hold their stein with proper from (as described below) for the longest without being disqualified by the judge will be considered the winner.
- An infraction of any rule will result in a strike being issued by the competition judge. After two strikes, the third strike results in immediate disqualification of the competitor.
- If any amount of beer spills or drips off of the stein, the competitor is disqualified, regardless of the number of strikes previously assigned.
- Once the match has started and the competitor has extended their arm, they may not set the stein back down, switch hands, or touch the stein with their off-hand to make any adjustments to grip.
Details:
- A 1 liter dimpled glass stein with handle must be used. The stein itself should weigh approximately 3 lbs. Steins used for any given competition should be of the same brand and style, and should be provided by the establishment hosting the competition to ensure consistency.
- The stein must be filled with liquid to the 1 Liter lip.
- The stein must be gripped by the handle.
- The thumb may not rest on top of the stein handle; it must rest on the other fingers.
- The pinkie finger may be held outside of the handle. If the pinkie is outside the handle, it may only touch the handle, not the main body of the stein.
- The stein may not be gripped sideways.
- Limited arching of the back is tolerable, however only minimal leaning is acceptable. In the vertical plane, the competitor’s elbow must never cross behind the front of the hips or the front of the ankle of either foot.
- Leaning to the left or right side is not allowed.
- The stein must be held out directly in front of the competitor, not out to the side.
- The arm holding the stein must remain close to parallel with the ground and should be extended straight with no bending at the elbow.
- The arm holding the stein must remain separated from the chest of the competitor. The chest may not be used as a shelf to support the arm.
- The off-hand should remain at the competitor’s side or back and may not touch or support the arm holding the stein.
- Competitors may not contact other structures, objects, or people during the competition.
Pretzel Eating Competition Rules
- Contestants must be at least 18 years old.
- The competition will be a 3-minute contest.
- Each contestant will receive a plate of 20 pretzels and one small cup of water. Each entrant will have 3 minutes to eat as many pretzels as possible. After time is called, contestants must then wait an additional 2 minutes and not throw up. Judges will take a count of pretzels during this time.
- Pretzels must be completely eaten one by one.
- Entrants will not be allowed any other foods or beverages other than the small cup of water supplied during the contest. Participants must wait 2 minutes after the conclusion of time before consuming any other foods or beverages in order for their pretzels to qualify.
- An entrant will be disqualified should he or she be unable to keep pretzels in their stomachs within the 5 total minutes of the contest.
- An entrant cannot coat the inside of his or her mouth with any kind of protective coating before or during the contest. Anyone caught doing so will be disqualified.
- The winner will be determined by the number of remaining pretzels on the contestant’s plate after time has been called. Each entrant will be allowed to finish any pretzel remaining in his or her mouth when time is called.
