One of the best things about living in Pflugerville is that it is so pfamily-pfriendly, so of course there’s plenty for children to enjoy at the annual Deutschen Pfest, May 18-20, 2018.

Carnival: Starting Friday evening, the carnival opens at Pfluger Park with rides specifically selected for children of all ages to enjoy. A weekend wristband is $20 for unlimited rides.

Parade and children’s parade: The Deutschen Pfest parade on Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. runs from Pfennig southbound on Railroad Avenue into downtown Pflugerville. Enjoy marching bands, floats and community organizations as they celebrate in the parade. Children are encouraged to participate in the Children’s Parade 10:45 which takes off at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Main and leads in the main parade on a shorter route. The 2018 theme is Music in the Air. Decorate your bike, play a musical instrument, wear a favorite costume and join the fun.

Kids 1K: This Kids K is a great chance to burn off extra energy on Sunday, May 20. Children take off in a 1K sprint to the finish line. The main 5K is at 8 a.m. with the Kids K to follow. For participating in the Kids K, children receive a T-shirt which grants free entry into the Deutschen Pfest all weekend long.

Children’s area: A special children’s area is set up in Gilleland Park with a petting farm, kiddie train, inflatables and puppet shows at the east gate of Deutschen Pfest at Gilleland Creek. No admission is required to participate in the children’s area. At the petting farm children can feed animals of various types. The kiddie train is onsite giving rides around the park. Take off your shoes and jump on the inflatables. The children’s area is open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Miss Pflugerville Pageant: The Miss Pflugerville Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Pflugerville Recreation Center. New for 2018, the event is in June to accommodate participants’ schedule of school activities. The winners’ reign concludes during the 2019 Deutschen Pfest.

Contestant applications are now accepted for the pageant through Friday, May 4 at 5 p.m.

The pageant divides contestants into three age groups:
Little – for girls going into third to fifth grade in the 2018-2019 school year.
Junior – for girls entering sixth to eighth grade in the 2018-2019 school year.
Miss – high school.

The competition includes a question and answer session. No swimsuit or talent competitions are involved. The event will be held at the Pflugerville Recreation Center, 400 Immanuel Road, on June 23 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The first mandatory parent and child meeting is on Saturday, May 5 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Pflugerville Recreation Center.

Winners will proudly represent Pflugerville throughout the year and will volunteer at community events including the Pfarmers Market, Library story times and other community festivals in addition to participating in the 2019 Deutschen Pfest and Deutschen Pfest Parade.

Admission: Children age 6 and under are free. Friday admission is $5, Saturday $7 and Sunday $5. Purchase a Deutschen PFest T-shirt and enjoy admission all weekend long. Children T-shirts are $10. Pfun Run Participants enjoy free admission wearing their race T-shirt.
